What’s Your Cure for Burnout?

by Shirley George Frazier on October 29, 2009

focus is crucial to good marketingYesterday was a challenging day for me. Actually, it was draining at each turn rather than challenging.

Every problem and glitch that could occur did. Everything I attempted to start, fix, or finish didn’t work the way I planned.

No day is the same when you work by yourself, and a day like this can cause the walls to close in.

You start talking to yourself, and worst yet, you’re not listening because you’ve tuned out.

I decided to get up and walk away from everything. It’s getting cold outside, but that didn’t matter. I had to save myself from giving up by closing shop for several hours. That’s certainly better than giving in to a total burnout.

Work schedules are more intense when you work alone because your lifestyle is riding on what you achieve each day. When working for someone else, getting up for a quick break is natural, and we entrepreneurs also deserve occasional breaks. It’s okay to not work “by the seat of your pants” all day long.

What’s your favorite cure when you’re on the verge of burnout?

I felt guilty when I’m not working according to schedule. However, I agree with you that we need to give our self a break sometimes.

Thanks for reminding me. :-)

Glad to share and remind you, Walter, of this very necessary part of productivity.

I think it is very important to give our self time to rest so that we can focus more on our tasks and plans.

What you say about resting is very true. Rest is a very powerful ally, especially when we don’t believe we need it.
