Does Your Marketing Pitch Convince or Collapse?

by Shirley George Frazier on March 16, 2009

marketing your services by phone demands clear messagesI just received a call from a person I easily identified as a paid telemarketer. She made the call on behalf of a chiropractor who’s trying to increase his business.

The pitch was that he will give me and all of my friends complimentary back and spine evaluations.

Before the woman finished the pitch, I said, “This is a business, not a residence.” She said, “Oh, okay,” and nothing more. I said, “Goodbye,” and ended the call.

I was fascinated with how easily she gave up when I told her that she had called a business line rather than a private residence. She did not continue to convince me, as an individual, to take advantage of the chiropractor’s offer.

Obviously, her script didn’t tell her what to do if objections arose.

Do you also give up quickly when marketing your services?

I’ve just returned from a five-day business conference that taught me everything under the sun, moon, and stars about marketing, momentum, and solving problems from every conceivable angle.

It’s too bad that the chiropractor didn’t also attend, as the script provided to his telemarketers would have been better prepared.

There are many places, online and offline, with information to help us create scripts that increase sales. It’s important to create and test each message so that it’s refined to produce great results. Otherwise, the dollars invested in marketing calls, whether completed by you or through hired help, is simply wasted.
