How to Add New Marketing Tips to Your Plan

by Shirley George Frazier on February 4, 2009

Marian Banker and Ramon Ray, hosts of Small Business Summit 2009How do you build a marketing list from 20 people to 20,000 people?

What are the best methods for increasing a Web site’s search rank?

Why is buying or renting an Email marketing list a waste of money?

These and more questions were answered to my satisfaction at yesterday’s Small Business Summit 2009, hosted by Ramon Ray and Marian Banker at Digital Sandbox in lower Manhattan.

Speakers provided the huge audience with a litany of tips and checklists on customer prospecting and retention, search engine optimization, and business building through smart marketing.

The all-day event sent me packing with a overwhelming bag of books, magazines, and business cards from day-long networking and interaction with sponsors and exhibitors.

Ramon Ray, host of Small Business Summit 2009Best of all, I reviewed my notes while traveling back to the office and determined where I would start turning what I learned into a short-term action plan.

Is that how you proceed after an event, or do your notes sit in a pile, along with business cards, waiting for someone to create an action plan for you?

It’s tough to take new ideas and generate new marketing material, isn’t it? But that’s your mission after attending seminars, workshops, and conferences. Perhaps my plan will help you get on track after your next event.

1. Review your notes immediately, highlighting ideas and information that’s easy to complete.

2. Turn similar parts of your notes into special reports, or share the data with colleagues or clients as needed.

3. Email or write notes to new connections who are now part of your network. Refer to something you talked about, your hair color, or where the two of you met so that the person truly remembers who you are.

I cannot wait to dive into this new-found information, cutting it up into manicured slices to share on the Solo Business Marketing Web site (soon to be relaunched with a dynamic new look) and in other ways that benefit solo business owners.

Check out the updated calendar for a list of upcoming conferences.

Do you share the same enthusiasm after attending an event?
